CARIAD publishes essential guides

C.A.R.I.A.D. are pleased to announce the publication of two essential guides to improving the welfare of dogs involved in breeding. These are intended to support licensing officials in understanding welfare needs of dogs and puppies, encourage breeders to improve practice and raise expectations of welfare standards across the board. One Guide focuses on improving the experience and welfare of breeding dogs and is titled, ‘Enhancing and Enriching the Experience of Dogs’. The second Guide focuses on supporting the learning and development of puppies and is titled, ‘A Guide to the Socialisation of Puppies’. Both guides are thoroughly evidenced-based and reflect a comprehensive review of the scientific evidence.

Our Guides are designed to support those with responsibility for ensuring the welfare of dogs. It is anticipated the Guides will be of value to local authority animal licensing officials in ensuring that the requirements of the Animal Welfare Act are fully met, to conscientious breeders and to others with responsibility for the care of dogs.

The Guides can be accessed via our dedicated web page and are available as a free PDF download, an interactive Flip Book and hard copy.

C.A.R.I.A.D. is firstly providing copies of both guides to licensing officials in all local authorities across Wales. We are immediately making the Guides available as a free download to all. We then intend to distribute and disseminate the Guides much more widely including to breeders, rescue organisations and local authorities across the United Kingdom. The assistance of C.A.R.I.A.D. supporters in this in sharing links to the Guides and raising awareness of them would be very much appreciated.
